Returning to Texas Sport Karate is the fabulous San Antonio Yellow Rose Nationals produced by Tony Lopez. This awesome event was ran on the 2011 4th of July weekend. July 1st and 2nd turned out to be sunny and hot at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel. I thought wow this sounds like some cool new exotic venue for a Karate tournament but as I drove into the parking lot I was shocked because it was the former Four Points Sheridan that had received a make over and a new turquoise paint job. I didn‘t event snap to it at first. Back in the 1990’s it was the Holliday Inn. The 1995 NBL World Games and many NBL, SKIL and TNT tournaments were held there through the 1990‘s and early 2000‘s. I was surprised but love the Hotel’s makeover although it seemed smaller some how.

On June 11th Jessie Benavidez teamed up with All Garza to produce this years 33rd Battle of Texas. The San Luis Convention Center in Galveston was once again picked to host this years martial arts tournament. The event was AOK and TKO rated. I have been to this tournament every year for the last eighteen years and I can say the best competition in the state of Texas and Louisiana are always in attendance. Over 350 competitors filled the convention center with top competition schools.
The tournament started 9 AM as billed. Many of the Texas AOK producers and officials were there helping to make the event run smoothly. There were many new faces in the crowed who’s excitement overflowed into the competition floor. Many of the veteran competitors could be seen warming up and performing their customary start up rituals. The City of Galveston has hosted many impressive martial arts events with this one rating at the top of the list. Galveston a favorite place for many competitors due to its sun, surf and relaxed vacation atmosphere.

D.E Chambers has a long history of producing quality martial arts events. His organization seems to consistently produce well run and on time karate tournaments. This year was no exception. Co-Producers Derick Quick and Antonio Anderson teamed up to expedite the action. The judges were paid by the number of divisions they ran and worked in. The top judges received money and all the judges were well taken care of during the event. D.E and Sharika Chambers could be seen keeping things on track attributing to the success of this May 14th 20011 Texas AOK AAA rate tournament.
Starting at 9 am as advertised, this tournament exemplified the height of efficiency. Westfield High School’s three main Gyms were packed. Many competitors were competing and finalizing their divisions ahead of time resulting in the quick completion to the event. There were a lot of bicycles given out to the under black belt champions. Many top Texas AOK promoters and officials were working hard to make this event finalize as quickly as possible. Top adult and junior black belt competitors from around the state accented the level of competition.
