Fort worth is usually associated with livestock and cowboys. But little known to all is its large martial arts community. Proximity to Dallas Texas and the enormous metro area of communities guarantee tough competition for all. Dewy Sutton and his large martial arts group were the ramrod’s of this Saturday October 11 2008 event. Held in the beautiful Amon Carter, Jr. Exhibits Hall of the Will Rogers Memorial Center in downtown Fort Worth, no expense was spared to accommodate competitors from all over the state of Texas. As a Texas AOK organization event, certain requirements were central to everyone’s best experience and fair competition. This includes the selection of top judges and participation of AOK promoters.
The exhibition hall has an excellent stage. This is where all adult black belt forms and weapons completion was ran off. Extra divisions were added to enhance the variety of competitors. Included were extra traditional and a senior weapons only division. As to be expected many of the competitors found themselves with there hands full as competition was tough. The floor of the exhibition hall had rings with puzzle mats and other safety materials covering the competition surface.

On Monday October 20, 2008, Texas Sport Karate News was saddened by to hear that one of our team

mates and truely blessed young man had passed away. Jamal Hasan is just 21 years old and apparently

died in an accidental drowning according to an article posted on www.news8austin.com which appeared

Monday October 19, 2008. The article stated " witnesses at the scene reported that the two swimmers

were diving from a cliff located in the area when one swimmer became distressed while in the water, the

other swimmer also went under in an attempt to assist the swimmer who was drowning".

Our thoughts and prayers are with his father Al and younger brother Jabbar. As more information is listed

we will post it, you may also check www.theaok.org for more updates. Unfortunatley the family has no

insurance and the A.O. K. Organization is accepting donations for the family. If you would like to help

out this family in their time of need please make your check out to the A.O.K. and put "Jamal Hasan" on

the memo line and send the check to:
