For 32 years Jessie Benavidez and his family have hosted the Battle of Texas. Back in 1978 when the first Battle of Texas was produced the world was a different place. Many of these Texas Karate tournaments have been the longest running events in the country and some of the most famous champions have started out competing in them. Cindy and Jessie Benavidez have been around the Texas and national karate scene, competing and running tournaments, since the early 1970’s.
Their tournament has always drawn large crowds from all over the place. This years Galveston March 6th event was attended by over 400 competitors and a large group of spectators and family members.

Beaumont Texas is a town that has produced some of the best martial artist in the country. Over the years many of these top champions have left there mark in the rich history of Texas karate. The list is long and includes both top fighters and forms champions.Fred Simon has been a key player in the Beaumont Karate scene. He and his students abound in most of east Texas. Students of Fred Simon are a major part of Texas sport Karate. This years February 6th Spindletop was produced by Fred Simon and attended by a large crowed of Texas AOK competitors. This tournament has been around for 37 years, wow.

This years Texas Amateur Organization of Karate finals was held at the Austin Convention Center. Through the years the attendance of this legendary event has grown. It has also seen some of the nobility of sport karate competing. Among the list of great past champions who were at the tournaments were Skipper Mullens, Chuck Norris, Allen Steen, Linda Denly, Demetrious Havanous and an endless list of some of the most famous competitors from the past and present centuries.
